Generative Engine Advertising. GEA, all four channels.
ChatGPT Ads launched February 2026. Microsoft Copilot Ads run 73% higher CTR than search. Google AI Overviews show ads on 25% of AIO results. Generative Engine Advertising (GEA) is the umbrella term for paid placements inside these AI engines — we run all four as one bundled service with one set of creative + one attribution layer.
Generative Engine Advertising (GEA) is the paid counterpart to GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) — sponsored placements served inside AI engines instead of AI-engine training organic visibility. The four live GEA channels in 2026: ChatGPT Ads (sponsored text at bottom of responses, launched Feb 2026), Microsoft Copilot Ads (sidebar + inline + Showroom, 73% higher CTR vs search), Google AI Overviews ads (sponsored placements inside AIO block, 25.56% of AIO results), and X Ads with Grok integration. We bundle them in one retainer with shared creative + cross-channel attribution. From $2,499/mo bundled (plus media spend percentages).

Generative Engine Advertising (GEA) — paid placements across every AI engine selling inventory.
What GEA is.
Generative Engine Advertising (GEA) is the paid counterpart to GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) — instead of optimising organic content to be cited inside AI engines, GEA buys sponsored placements served inside those same engines. The term emerged in late 2024 alongside ChatGPT's ad-platform announcement and is the umbrella for what was previously a fragmented set of "AI ads" channels.
The four GEA channels.
Four AI engines now sell ad inventory in production. ChatGPT Ads (OpenAI, self-serve since May 2026) — sponsored text at the bottom of responses, CPM $25–45, CPC $3–5. Microsoft Copilot Ads — sidebar + inline + Showroom format inside Copilot + Bing Chat, 73% higher CTR vs traditional search, bought via Microsoft Ads + PMax. Google AI Overviews ads — sponsored placements inside AIO block, 25.56% of AIO results show ads as of Oct 2025 (up from 5.17% in March), bought via Google Ads + PMax. X Ads with Grok integration — standard X Ads platform with AI-conversation surfacing under development.
Dead channels.
Perplexity Ads is dead. Perplexity launched sponsored follow-up questions in November 2024, paused new advertisers in October 2025, and formally abandoned advertising in February 2026 citing user-trust concerns. We do not build campaigns for dead channels. Anthropic Claude has no ads — official "no ads" stance. Meta AI has no ad inventory inside conversations as of June 2026. Smaller engines (You.com, Brave AI, Arc Search) have minimal inventory; not worth the operational overhead.
Why bundled.
Shared creative pipeline: one brief feeds ChatGPT text + Copilot Showroom + AIO video + X. Otherwise three creative teams. Shared attribution layer: GTM Server-Side + Enhanced Conversions cross-references all four channels. Otherwise four siloed dashboards. Cross-channel allocation: which AI engine returns best cost-per-conversion for your category? Without bundled view, you can't tell. Single pricing layer: $2,499/mo base + 8% on Microsoft + Google + 10% on OpenAI + X. Cheaper than running these as separate retainers.
Four productised AI engine ad services. Run alone or bundled.
ChatGPT Ads (OpenAI)
Sponsored text at the bottom of ChatGPT responses. Conversation-topic targeting. CPM $25–45 / CPC $3–5. No minimum spend. Live since Feb 2026, self-serve since May 2026.
Microsoft Copilot Ads
Sidebar + inline + Showroom format inside Copilot + Bing Chat. 73% higher CTR vs traditional search. Bought via Microsoft Ads + PMax. 15–25% CPC savings vs Google.
Google AI Overviews Ads
Sponsored placements inside AIO block. 25.56% of AIO results show ads (Oct 2025). Bought via Google Ads + PMax + Shopping. Asset-group + feed quality drive AIO eligibility.
X Ads + Grok integration
Standard X Ads at business.x.com with Grok-conversation surfacing in development. Watch-list channel — we configure when inventory matures. Currently service-able only via standard X Ads.
Why AI engine ads are the fastest-growing paid surface in 2026.
Brands ready to test every AI engine while CPMs are still soft.
DTC + eCommerce
ChatGPT shopping-context + Copilot Showroom + Google AIO PMax. Single creative pipeline, three placements.
B2B SaaS
ChatGPT category research + Copilot LinkedIn-data + AIO comparison queries. Highest-intent paid surface for category discovery.
Brands recovering from AIO traffic loss
AEO recovery (organic) paired with AIO ads (paid) for full coverage. ChatGPT Ads layer on top for incremental AI-surface reach.
Early-adopter brands
You want first-mover advantage in channels before competition catches up. CPMs are still soft; the 6-month window matters.
Audit → bundle → launch. One creative pipeline.
Cross-channel opportunity audit
Which AI engines fit your category? Where are CPMs softest? Which conversation/query clusters drive intent? Cross-channel allocation proposal.
Unified setup
Accounts provisioned at ads.openai.com + Microsoft Ads + Google Ads. Server-side tracking deployed across all. Brand-safety configured per channel.
Creative production
Single creative pipeline feeding all 3–4 channels. Hook-first text for ChatGPT, Showroom for Copilot, video + static for AIO, X.
Weekly iteration + cross-channel review
New creative weekly. Cross-channel allocation tuned monthly based on which AI engine returns best cost-per-conversion for your category.
What runs every month.
Cross-channel allocation
Monthly review of where each dollar performs best — ChatGPT vs Copilot vs AIO. Rebalance with bid-shift recommendations.
Unified creative pipeline
One brief, three channels of execution. Hook-first text for ChatGPT, Showroom for Copilot, video/static asset packs for AIO.

AI engine ads questions we get most.
What is GEA and how is it different from GEO? +
GEA (Generative Engine Advertising) is the paid side — sponsored placements served inside AI engines like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google AI Overviews. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the organic side — schema, llms.txt, entity signals, and content structure that earn unpaid citations in those same engines. The cleanest 2026 strategy runs both: GEO for organic citations + GEA for paid placement when the organic flywheel hasn't earned the slot yet. We deliver both as separate services that share the same underlying AI-engine intelligence layer.
Which AI engine should I start with? +
Depends on category. eCommerce + DTC: start with ChatGPT (sub-market CPMs + shopping context) and Copilot (Showroom format). B2B SaaS: AIO (comparison queries) + Copilot (LinkedIn-data). Brands hit by AIO traffic loss: AIO ads + AEO recovery in parallel.
Do AI engine ads cannibalise my existing Google + Meta? +
Mostly no — AI engine inventory reaches users earlier in research, often pre-Google. We run incrementality tests in month 1 to measure true lift vs rebalanced spend.
What about Perplexity ads? +
Dead channel. Perplexity formally abandoned advertising in February 2026 citing trust concerns. We do not build campaigns for dead channels.
Will Claude or Gemini start running ads? +
Claude (Anthropic) maintains an official "no ads" stance. Gemini ads exist via Google AIO inventory. We track both monthly; service offering will update when state changes.
Can I run only ChatGPT Ads? +
Yes — see /services/chatgpt-ads/ for the single-channel retainer ($1,799/mo + 10%). Most clients add Copilot + AIO within 60 days once they see cross-channel allocation gains.
How is creative shared across channels? +
One brief, channel-specific execution. Hook-first text for ChatGPT (240-char placement), Showroom interactive for Copilot, static + video asset packs for AIO, native X for Grok. Same brand-voice + same value props across all.
How much does the bundle cost? +
AI Engine Ads Bundle is $2,499/mo base fee + 8% of Microsoft + Google spend + 10% of OpenAI + X spend. Cheaper than four separate retainers. Single-channel retainers start at $1,499/mo per channel — see individual service pages.
What's the minimum spend? +
Across the bundle, $15k/mo media spend is the recommended floor — below that, the cross-channel allocation analysis doesn't have enough signal. Single-channel retainers fit $5k/mo per channel.
